What an eventful week at Bromley East. The students are working so hard to complete the final work assignments before heading to summer and then 3rd grade. We have taken many tests this week and turned in scrapbooks. I really enjoyed looking at the scrapbooks and seeing these wonderful children as they have grown up. Your students did a great job during the tornado warning on Wednesday.

Free dress day will be on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. We will be having bagles on Monday morning and Pizza lunch on Tuesday. Field day is Wednesday, if you would like to join us, and school is dismissed at 11:00.

If your student will not be here on Tuesday please let me know so I can give them their gift early. I will not be at school on Friday but will return Monday.

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Brakel

Week April 25-28

Hello second grade families,

It has been such a wonderful week to return to see all the smiling faces of my second graders. I really missed them and it was nice to see many parents this week also. We had an Ellis Island simulation today and had such a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped and sent in food.

Next week is our field trip to Berry Patch Farms, it should be exciting.

Book bags were in need of attention this week, we will begin next week with a clean slate.

We are working on telling time and understanding a calendar in math, look for homework next week.

Thanks for a great return,

Mrs. Brakel

Week of April 11-15

We have some busy and exciting weeks ahead! Highlights include an Ellis Island Day, a family tree project, and a field trip to Berry Patch Farms the beginning of May. We will be looking forward to Ms. Brakel's return on Wednesday, April 27th. Check out the upcoming events tab for more details.

We had a great time this week watching some eagles take care of their new eaglets on the internet. It's a live web cam on an eagle's nest in Iowa. The kids loved it and imagine their surprise when the male eagle dropped a whole, live fish in the nest and the female began to feed her babies! Check it out from home and ask them to tell you what they've seen the eagles do.

My family and I will be going on vacation during the week of Spring Break so I am posting homework and spelling for the week we get back ahead of time. I'm trying to avoid the Sunday-afternoon-return-from-vacation panic! Hope you all have a great week off.

Week of March 21 - 25, 2011

One more week until Spring Break! Progress reports went home in your child's Friday folder on the 18th. It was in a sealed white envelope with their name in the upper corner. Let me know if you have any questions.

They opened fourth quarter in the parent portal and I posted grades for this past week. You should now be able to see their grades for the first week of fourth quarter. Be sure and check for the Spring fundraiser in their Friday Folder also. It contains a piece of original artwork created by your child. You can order items with the artwork on them and a portion of the proceeds go to the school. It's a great gift idea. Don't forget book bags go home on Monday and are due on Friday this week.

Week of Valentine's Day

Remember, we have two short weeks with no school on Friday or next Monday!

Book Bags and Reading Logs - we had quite a few missing book bags this week. In an effort to help everyone remember to do them each week, I will start sending them home on Monday instead of Friday. Hopefully, you will see them as you check your student's homework planner on Monday evening. If your house is like mine, the weekend is a whirlwind and reading logs sometimes get lost in the shuffle! They will still be due on Friday.

There will be no Break Through after school this week due to parent teacher conferences.

I have added a Spelling tab to the blog in case you want to get a head start on the challenge words for the week.

Have a great week!

School Pictures - new date

Due to our snow days last week, class pictures have been rescheduled for Monday, February 14th. Please have your child in their school uniform.

Remember, our class will not have parent-teacher conferences the week of Feb. 15-17 since conferences were conducted with Mrs. Brakel in January. You can always e-mail or call me with questions at any time. My e-mail address is sbole@bromleyeastcs.org and my cell phone is 303-588-1957.

I am putting together something special for the class on Valentine's Day. Watch for more details on the blog and in their homework planner this week. Sorry it did not make Friday Folders. It was a little crazy with my first week and two snow days!

There will NOT be new book bags this week. For students reading The Mouse and the Mortorcycle, keep reading. For all other students, the decodable book and book report will be due Friday, February 11th. If they finish the book report early, you can let them read a book of their choosing.

On another note, Mrs. Brakel welcomed baby girl Kaylynn at 9:30am Wednesday, February 2nd. She is 6 lbs, 14 oz and 20 inches long. She looked beautiful in the picture.

Some students will be coming home with challenge books, and the rest will begin having a book report to complete in the book bag. Please look for these by Friday.
